Rex keeps a constant eye on his exceedingly frail but strong-willed wife. Forty-eight years ago, having a massive heart condition, Inez had to choose between living and in all likelihood dying if she delivered her son. Inez, against her family's wishes, delivered the child but has been frail ever since. A recent photograph of her son hangs on the wall.
