In July 2002, Maryland launched its antismoking campaign with a theme, “Smoking Stops Here,†that is designed to change social attitudes about the acceptability of smoking. In 2003, Maryland ranked in the top four states, allocating 30 million dollars to tobacco prevention programs. Pictured, Peg Browning, an antismoking activist, speaks with fifth graders about the consequences of smoking.
