On days that are below 30 degrees, Roger Barrus plays hockey with his sons Cody, 9, in foreground, and Alex, 7, not pictured, on the homemade ice rink in their backyard in Farmington, Utah. Using his garden hose, Barrus fills the rink with about 5,400 gallons of water, which he lets freeze overnight. It is transformed into a basketball court during the summer months.
