After a long day of events, fatigue comes easily and shows in the faces of the retarded children. An exhausted 9-year-old sports her second place ribbon and gets a hug and kiss from the volunteer who helped her throughout the day.
Special Olympics is good for these kids in that many of them have never been a winner at anything. Special Olympics is up so that every kid is a winner. Win or lose, everyone gets a ribbon and, at least for one day, is a winner.
