Polish worker's leader Lech Walesa before a cheering crowd held up the large pen with which he signed a document obliging the Communist Party to legalize independent unions and the right to strike. The agreement came after Gdansk workers walked away from their jobs and threatened collapse of Poland's industrial establishment.
