Caption/Description
Ash filled the sky at noon and it stayed dark all Sunday and not until Monday were residents able to move about and see the damage that this mountain, 70 miles away, had done. For those first few days after the eruption, Yakima looked more like a place on the moon. Wind picked up the ash, and blew it around.
