Caption/Description
A young girl serving as an attendant to a geisha is called a kamuro. She accompanies the older woman, helps carry the tea vessels and offers her shoulder as a balance for the geisha, who walks in high clogs. Today a kamuro is found only in places such as sumiya teahouse in Kyoto, which is a living museum of authentic 18th century Japan.
