David, hopping a freight train for the first time in his life, is making a serious mistake. First, he doesn't know that even old-time hobos hate to hop moving trains unless they have to. Second, it is going too fast. We found David in Colton, a small city with a big rail yard east of Los Angeles. An unemployed cook from Iowa, David is taking the train north.
