It was a day of firsts for Tony Hillard...the first time he ever got food stamps, and the first day he ever rode a freight train. As he ate the pickle bought with food stamps, he explained he was going to get back on the train stopped behind him and head back to Oklahoma in search of work. He was an oil driller who was laid off. He came to California looking for work.
