Over 100 Haitian boatpeople approach Miami seeking asylum in their unseaworthy craft. Tens of thousands of poor Haitians have landed in south Florida in the past few years. Many others have died trying. United States Immigration officials have detained for a period all the newcomers they could catch, charging them with illegal entry.
