Kelly was rushed to the Alta Bates Hospital burn unit in Berkeley. Despite massive burns over most of her body, she endured. Kelly's surgeons, Dr. James Yahr and Dr. Gerold Kaplan, spent literally days in the operating room with Kelly. Upon her release six weeks later, Kelly was fitted with a pressure garment designed to minimize blistering.
