Fifteen seconds after shooting a gunman in a downtown office building, officer Victor Balsamico is comforted by fellow policeman, Regis Brueggmann. Moments before, Rodland Jones had wounded his estranged wife at her office and hid in another room, Balsamico, nicknamed Kojak, entered the room and Jones turned his gun toward the officer. “A chill went down my spine because I knew that one of us wasn’t going to leave the room,” Balsamico said.
