The elaborate hairstyle and stylized makeup of a geisha require hours of preparation before a 'date,' a men's dinner party where she and sometimes other geisha will entertain with witty conversation and flirtations. Many of these traditions haven't varied for centuries, but at home alone, Kimisuzu writes in her diary underneath her poster of Michael Jackson.
