Caption/Description
Braced against an early evening chill, a woman passes by on a path leading from a village near Umtata, the capital of Transkei, one of the designated black homelands. In many villages in the homelands, women and children predominate. The men are off working in the cities to earn money. Typically, the men are able to return home about once a month to bring money and visit their families.
