Police armed with revolvers and tear gas guns in the alley in the rear of the home at 1624 Twenty-First in which drink-crazed John W. Burns, a fire sergeant, barricaded himself and defied police. He was killed in the half-hour-long fusillade of police bullets fired at the house.
