Harper Hospital surgeons operating on a dog's heart preparatory to connecting the 'Michigan heart' developed in co-operation with General Motors engineers. Later, the mechanism, resembling an auto engine, was used on a human, climaxing years of research. It pumps blood through the system during surgery on the heart.
