Calvin Coolidge Lynn brought his horse, Smurf, to court to try and convince Commissioner William Brigance Sr. that the animal (the size of a large dog) should be exempt from a livestock ban. Courtroom Clerk John Craren keeps his eye on Smurf to prevent him from grazing in the courtroom. Lynn was fined $189.
