Story Summary, The 49er Fire swept through the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in mid-September. Started by a transient burning toilet paper, the wildfire destroyed more than 150 homes, and 35,000 acres as it burned out of control for more than three days. Eventually the fire was contained. Damage was estimated to be in the millions The residents of the devastated communities had to go through the ashes and start anew. Caption, Flame retardant was dropped on large areas. Leaving the ground still smouldering and pink as firefighters surveyed the damaged area.
