The Amish community moved a small birth clinic onto Lucille Sykes property in rural Pennsylvania. They asked her to deliver their babies. Lucille, a lay midwife, delivers children for Old Order Amish, New Order Amish and a handful of friends. After thirteen years and over 600 healthy babies, Lucille had complications with a birth. The state brought charges against her for operating as an unlicensed midwife.
