Details of the Berkeley lake drowning of Matias Valdiva, 16, of Erie, whose blanket-shrouded body is in the foreground, are pieced together by Bill Duran, 18, swimming companion of Valdiva, who is weighed down by grief over the tragedy. Valdiva, who couldn't swim very well, drowned late Monday in 8 feet of water, about ten feet from ladder to pier.
