Caption/Description

There are over 10,000 children living on the streets of Rio de Janeiro. There are shelters for only 300 of them. 3 gangs allowed me to share their lives. Life on the streets is grim. It includes getting high on drugs and glue, experiences with love and death, laughter and tears, stealing and begging for a living, the family of one's gang, the police and reform school, the isolation by the public, and the clashes with the public. Life on the streets is a series of contradictions as these children and the adults who live with them try to survive in full view of the public, if anyone wishes or cares enough look. The central station garbage dump is home to several of the children who are sent out daily by their mothers to beg in the train station.
