Caption/Description
Czecho-Slovakia is a country with a population of 15 million. Most of the people are Czechs and Slovaks, but other minorities live there too. Almost a half a million Gypsies live in a Czecho-Slovakia, most of them in a region of Eastern Slovakia. They came here more than 600 years ago as nomadic tribes. The different color of their skin, their distinctive language, customs, and way of life set them off from the surrounding societies in which they live. Many of them live in ghettos. They keep to themselves, living in a world of their own, according to their own customs and norms. These photographs are an exploration into a world of such an existence. Two brothers from Uloza.
