Adopted Polish Kids

Chris and Bill Leheny of Independence Township, Pennsylvania, were a young childless couple that decided to adopt three siblings from Poland (Chris is of Polish descent). I photographed the family over a ten month period as both parents and the adopted children struggled to overcome various obstacles. None of the children spoke English and the parents didn't know Polish but eventually these strangers became a loving family unit and the children became American citizens. Relatives of their adoptive parents greet the children as they arrive in Pittsburgh.
