Sarajevo, Life in a War Zone

No civilian is safe in Sarajevo. Even in broad daylight. Venturing out into the streets can spell death. In this city where Muslims, Croats and Serbs once peacefully co-existed, now live under mortar shellings and gunfire everyday. Shortages of water, food and fuel make life hard for Sarajevo residents. Bosnian and Serbian snipers maintain a steady barrage of gunfire. Bombs aimed from the city's surrounding hills kill and maim as well. Children play war amidst its reality. A sarajevo woman clutches her head in anguish as she and others wait for shelling and gunfire to stop.
