Caption/Description

Tropical storm Mitch, the 4th strongest hurricane this century, unleashed floods and mudslides throughout Central America. Honduras suffered record damage in which many thousands were killed and nearly 2 million left homeless. among the destruction, 33 bridges were destroyed including the El Guayabo bridge that crosses the Choluteca river, and connects Tegucigalpa to one of the major roads leading to Nicaragua. People had to confront their fears crossing the swollen waters in order to get to work or reunite with family. Some needed to get to their businesses and others made businesses out of ferrying people from one side to the other. A man comes to the shore of the Choluteca River to see if the waters are low enough for him to cross on his mule.
