Caption/Description
The unique Swahili Muslim tradition of the Lamu archipelago off the east coast of Africa came by sailing dhow out of the 8th century Islamic empire. These days, sail is steadily giving way to motor, but the dhows and the men who sail them are still the key to all life on the islands. A small boy and watches Dhow set sail from Lamu waterfront.
