Caption/Description
As the fading vestige of farm life shrivels, cookie-cutter houses bring the commuter minded to rural Lincoln-Way, a community 35 miles south of Chicago. On fields where families once gathered, children now swing on backyard playgrounds. The lifestyle changes with the land.Stephanie Matejcak, 12, walks her sheep Bouncy through her subdivision in Lockport, Ill., where she raises animals for the Lucky Clover 4-H Club. While the subdivision by-laws prohibit barns and farm animals, Matejcak's uncle owns a farm which borders their yard.
