Caption/Description

Trapped-Guarding the village Villagers guard the path to the village of Bini Gaw where thousands of Hazara people are trapped high in the Mushkel-Hal mountains in the Abdulgan region of northern Afghanistan. In the village of Bini Gaw, as well as the other some 60 villages in the region, half the population fled in search of food after the fall of the Taliban. The rest were too weak to make the journey. Half of them had already died of starvation by December of 2001.
