Caption/Description
The Amazon Rainforest is one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. with more than 5,000 tree species found there. Threatened by deforestation, it's giving way to soy fields, cattle farming and big infrastructure projects. The dry season in the Amazon is also known as the burn season because many farmers clear their land with fire.
Virgin rainforest stands on land between Alta Floresta and Santarem in Para State, Brazil, Aug. 26, 2007.
