Madaline was beaten by the FARDC while she hid in the forest. They stole everything she had. She could not speak, but the doctors attending her said she had a seriously swollen abdomen and showed signs of being brutally raped. She is trapped in a clinic on the front line and is unable to flee despite fighting going on all around.
