Third baseman Don Hoak of the Pittsburgh Pirates makes a gallant but vain effort to corral Charlie Smith's line drive in the second inning of the first game of a doubleheader with the Philadelphia Phillies at Forbes Field. The ball went out into left field corner for a double. The Pirates won the opener 10-5, but dropped the nightcap 4-3.
