The medical staff of the 8th FST (Forward Surgical Team) treat Sergeant Major Patrick Corcoran (on stretcher), of Head Quarters Company, 2nd battalion, 87th Infantry regiment, 3rd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, who's life was in a fragile state after an IED detonated underneath his MRAP vehicle while on patrol in Wardack Province; 8th FST (Forward Surgical Team) of Forward Operating Base Shank in Logar Province, Afghanistan, August 12, 2009. Corcoran, who has made a 20-year-long career in the Army, sustained a significant spinal injury and is receiving treatment at Walter Reed hospital. The 8th FST is the Army's busiest trauma II level surgical center, providing care for US troops, the Afghan National Army, and local Nationals in Eastern Afghanistan.
