Anderson is wheeled toward a flag lowered to half-mast. His friends from the 411th Military Police Company had known him as high-spirited, energetic and driven. After seeing Anderson at their reunion, they were not surprised that he was still the same person. “I don’t think I could’ve handled it,” one of the men says. “I would have given up.”
