While playing in a lot near her San Marino, CA, home, three-year-old Kathy Fiscus tumbled down an abandoned well. The pipe, large enough to admit the child's body, could not accommodate a rescuer. An army of volunteer sandhogs dug feverishly to rescue her, but when they removed the child three days later, she was dead.
