England's beat movement was born in Liverpool and was brought to world prominence by the Beatles. Now more than 350 beat groups struggle for recognition and a chance to play to the screaming teenagers of Liverpool's Cavern Club, which is considered the Mecca of the 'mersey sound' for having launched the Beatles. Most groups remain unknown.
