His shotgun held at the ready, a Newark policeman stands over William Furr, whom he has just shot. In three minutes Furr was dead. Lying on the street under the ONE WAY sign, is 12-year-old Joe Bass Jr., who was the inadvertent victim of the same shotgun blast that killed Furr. Joe lies seriously wounded in neck and thigh as a policeman rushes over.
