On July 24, 1973, 12-year-old Santos Rodriguez was questioned by police regarding his possible involvement in a burglary. Trying to scare the boy, one of the officers placed his revolver to Santo's head. The gun discharged and the lad was dead. Four days later the Mexican-American community turned out in a protest demonstration.
