Caption/Description
In the Appalachian Highlands where mountain and sky embrace in clean and enduring intimacy, springs are born, and they in turn give birth to the South and North Branch of the Potomac River. But these dual headwaters are ecological opposites, as starkly contrasting as midday and midnight, or quite literally, living and dead.
