On a bitter cold January day the ice started to crack around a 16-year-old ice fisherman on a large quarry lake. He lay spread eagle on the ice--to distribute his weight while awaiting rescue. He kept sinking lower and lower, breaking through the ice more and more and rescuers got a rope to him moments before he would have drowned.
