Spitsbergen is a group of islands 800 miles north of Norway. Longyearbyen is a Norwegian coal mining tlement. It has a population of 700 people. Because this tlement is beyond the Arctic Circle, there is six months of daylight and six months of darkness. Also, 12 months of isolation.
