Seventy-seven-year-old Montalvo Martin made a prisoner of himself in this room of his own house for 40 years. A Republican during the Spanish Civil War, Martin chose this self imprisonment in his basement rather than face execution by General Francisco Franco. Martin finally 'came out' of hiding last June even though Franco had been dead almost two years.
