Leprosy has no cure. Method of transmission is unknown. Although this disease is not a significant health factor in the United States, the American taxpayer is supporting one of the largest leprosy treatment and research programs in the world. The patients at Carville feel that society owes them this much after the years of ostracism which they suffered.
