During Jan. and Feb. each year the United States Coast Guard Motor Lifeboat School at Cape Disappointment, Ilwaco, Washington, conducts training exercises in the mouth of the Columbia River. These exercises, at the confluence of the river and the Pacific Ocean test man and machine in some of the roughest water in the world.
