Rachel, a battered woman in the St. Paul shelter, comforts Donna, distraught because her husband vowed she'd never get custody of their son. For many women in the shelter, bonding with women is a new thing. Abused women are often isolated by their abusive partners, which conditions them to be jealous and mistrustful of other women.
