The Bennett Freeze was hardest on the elderly and the sick. Life without electricity meant that sick people ? like the scores of Navajo who suffer from diabetes ? were unable to refrigerate their medicine. And badly ventilated stoves have led to an epidemic of upper respiratory problems.
