The first day that Alan, 14, (center) ran away, he was robbed at gunpoint of his only money, a $10 bill, by an older guy in the park. He was befriended by a merchant seaman who took him to lunch here at the Gospel Mission and gave him $1 to buy it. Kids usually avoid the Gospel Mission if at all possible because it serves mostly derelicts.
