Laurie, 14, spends a few hours on Friday evenings in the Christian drop-in center called the Sunshine Inn which is a haven for street kids, alcoholics, derelicts and mental patients released into the streets due to federal cutbacks. Only open from 7,30 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays, the center serves coffee and tea and gives the kids shelter for a few hours.
