He founded Gateway Rehabilitation Center, a residential treatment program for substance abuse after getting his medical degree and psychiatric specialty. Twerski empathizes with those who succumb to chemical dependency, although he only drinks when blessing wine on Shabbat. He doesn't walk the halls at Gateway--he runs from one patient to another.
