Rose Ortiz, 72, raised eight children in Father Panik Village. She lost 2 to violence involving drugs, and one to AIDS, an intravenous drug user. Ortiz didn't want to leave her home of 35 years, but the complex was being closed. In her bedroom, a shrine to her children, she pleaded to stay. Within the week of moving from panic, Ortiz died.
