GOLDEN GIRL - CRUSH - After a show in Greenville, S.C., Carly Patterson faces a huge crowd of fans seeking her autograph on Sept. 19, 2004. Hundreds - sometimes thousands - of fans push to the rail for autographs after each performance, and Carly's autograph is always the most sought after. GOLDEN GIRL - The summer began well for Carly Patterson. She got her driver's license and her braces off. But it was in Athens where Patterson went from hopeful teenager to gymnastics legend. She jumped into the arms of her coach and the dreams of every young gymnast. She became a household name, an American icon, the next Mary Lou.
